As an American living in Paris, I have come to accept that there are a handful of Americanisms that will likely never translate well over here. For instance, smiling at strangers and apologizing for inconsequential mistakes are two of the biggest giveaways that there’s an American in the midst, followed closely by things like striking up small talk in an elevator or giving tours of your home to guests.
However, the one American invention I’ve discovered that the French are verymuch getting behind lately (aside from Ralph Lauren and Levi’s) is the celebration of all things Cyber Monday. It’s one of the rare times when French and American cultures collide. The shopping holiday only recently started to catch on in Europe in the last few years, but on Monday, December 2 more French people than ever will be scrolling through deals and shopping sales comme un Américain.
As in years past, many of this year’s top Cyber Monday sales will be on Amazon, where I’ve been finding some of my favorite French-inspired fashion deals to carry me through my next season abroad. From the beautiful boots I see every day on the Metro to the knit dress I’ve been coveting while wandering the marché, here are the French style Cyber Monday deals I’m shopping for during this French-loved-but-American-born shopping day.
