Design Notes Opened last June on the top six floors of Tokyo’s 52-story Toranomon Hills tower, these 164 rooms comprise Japan’s biggest Andaz and the first hotel project by legendary designer Shinichiro Ogata. With the help of New York–based interior designer Tony Chi, Ogata emphasizes the pure beauty and simple, sleek sophistication of the Japanese aesthetic. You’ll find elegant washi paper and walnut accents throughout and traditional yukatas (summer kimonos) in every room.
Best place to hang out The Rooftop Bar floats 52 floors above the city, offering both indoor and outdoor spaces from which to take in the dazzling skyline. The bar is a re-envisioned take on a traditional Japanese teahouse, where chief mixologist Warren Lindsay sets up his lab to create some truly remarkable cocktails infused with premium teas, seasonal fruits, fine sakes and unexpected flavor additions like bamboo shoot syrup, salted sour plum and sakura (cherry blossom) liqueur.
Room with a View In the 51st-floor Andaz Tavern, you can savor Japanese-inflected European cuisine, such as Hokkaido venison loin with sweet-sour pumpkin and mushroom fritters, and the intricate wooden art of British sculptor Charlie Whinney, while enjoying sweeping views of the city. But the property’s best vantage point is the AO Spa and Club on the 37th floor, where, if you time your treatment just right, you can wake from your massage in time to see the sun setting behind the city below.
