Rustic Destination Wedding Venues in the U.S.

By Kristy Alpert

Whether you’re planning a laid-back wedding or looking to connect with nature during your nuptials, these rustic wedding venues are every bit as chic as they are cozy.

High eaves and exposed beams have taken the place of cathedral ceilings and gilded alters for many couples looking to say their vows in venues that offer a bit more personality. Rustic wedding venues can add a touch of charm and intimacy to the big day, where venues range from historic barns deep in the country to scenic overlooks on vineyard grounds.

Foster Creek Farm

WHERE: Belgrade, Montana

Foster Creek Farm captures the historically untamed and wild nature of Montana’s rural landscape with decidedly upscale additions. The farm was once vital for barley and wheat farmers in the area back in the early 1900s when the two-story white barn was built on the property. Now, the barn is the site for countless weddings as its renovated digs offer a heated or air-conditioned environment with timbered walls and floor-to-ceiling windows. Although the property is just a few short minutes from downtown Bozeman, guests are invited to stay in the rustic log cabins or the stylish glamping tents on the property.

The West Monitor Barn

WHERE: Richmond, Vermont

It took nearly 10 years to restore this classic red dairy barn back to its original 1903 splendor, but the labor of love made it one of the most sought after rural venues in Vermont. Nearly 40 percent of the timber is original—as are all of the stone walls and stone foundation—but modern updates to the West Monitor Barn include rustic carriage barn lamps, a commercial kitchen, two restrooms, an elevator, and a third floor reception area with an 80-foot private deck that’s perfect for outdoor cocktail hours. All of the proceeds from wedding rentals go to the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps programs, and the onsite organic farm allows for a truly farm-to-table concept for receptions.
