After nearly two years of last-minute planning and daydreaming over screensavers and Zoom backgrounds, tangible travel may finally come back in 2022…and there’s a lot to look forward to. The excitement has been building for many of the new hotels of 2022 since long before the pandemic, and, with only a few more days left before the New Year, it’s time to start packing those bags and booking those plane tickets. From a boutique hotel in Bolivia overlooking the Andes Mountains to an Italian masterpiece making its Capri debut after 200 years in the making, here are our most anticipated hotel openings of 2022.

Habitas Santa Teresa – Opening Mid-2022
WHERE: Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
This 35-room eco-sustainable retreat will occupy a portion of the Nicoya Peninsula known best for its Pura Vida ethos and incredible surf breaks. The entire resort will be constructed from ethically sourced organic materials, where it will effortlessly blend into its beachfront jungle surroundings. Guests will soon be able to book surf lessons or head underwater for snorkeling tours of the Malpais underwater volcano.

MET Hotel – Opening January 2022
WHERE: La Paz, Bolivia
This chic boutique hotel will fit right in with its posh neighbors once it opens in La Paz’s trendy Calcoto neighborhood, overlooking the Andes Mountains. The MET Hotel, including all 76 rooms, will be powered by solar energy and the walls will be lined with a curated art collection from Mariano Ugalde himself.

Cashel Palace – Opening March 2022
WHERE: Tipperary, Ireland
Transforming this former Archbishop’s grand country house (dating back to 1732) into a luxury hotel was no small feat. The project was overseen by conservation architects who managed to create 42 rooms and nine suites—as well as a restaurant, bar, ballroom, and spa—that fall under the Nearly Zero Energy Building rating.
